Such was the interest in this trip, that we had two separate visits both of which were interesting and informative. On the 10th March we set off for Garstang which is an ancient market town and the first Fairtrade Town in the Country. After a stroll round and some lunch we set off for the Midland Hotel where our guide – Brian gave a very comprehensive tour and explained the history of the hotel and our cream tea went down very well. The weather was cold and windy – Morecambe is windy at the best of times. On the 24th March our second trip fared much better with the warmest day of the year. Garstang was buzzing with a busy market and we again went on to visit the Midland Hotel, which is owned by Urban Splash who have restored many old buildings in Liverpool. It is run by a group called English Lakes. On the second trip there was a bit of excitement as we saw the Hydrofoil Lifeboat launched and a Sea King Helicopter. We introduced ourselves to Eric Morecambe and saw the Tern Art Project which is at various intervals along the promenade.
