That sounds most interesting -this is a group I must join sometime. Do you have to commit to a whole session or can you just drop in from time to time.
I find it a bit sad and a probable false economy in the long term that the present coalition plans to drop the census. David K.

I do know that you could sow peas or broad beans this time of the year and they would have to be protected with a cloche or cold frame but if your soil is recently manured it would be best to let the frost do its work and break down the clay and start planting late Febuary with early letuce, peas,beans, onions and protect with glass or cloche, start some seed potatoes which you can grow in a barrel something i have often done and had my own new potatoes very early Delicious.

Can you tell me if it is OK to plant vegetables in recently manured soil and what you would recommend to plant at this time of the year in this part of the country. Soil is clay, has been double dug and was formerly part of lawn? David.

David,it is known as a Pineapple tree( cytissus battandier) and produces flowers with a pineapple scent very fragrant.
