Review of Days Out

In June, on a beautiful sunny day, we visited Masson Mill, in Derbyshire,  which was built originally as a Cotton Mill, by Richard Arkwright in the l800′s and is now an Aladdin’s Cave of clothes, shoes, gifts, restaurant etc. and a museum.  Later we visited the Crich Tramway Village which was a step back in time – how we used to travel.  There were rides on the vintage trams, a wonderful woodland walk with tree sculptures and lots more.

On the l6th July we visited Leyburn and Hawes.  We had coffee at Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn, a venue which is often used by BBC in its series Flog It.  We then had an opportunity to visit  the Chocolate Factory and the Leybun Teapottery with its quirky teapots.  A lot of money changed hands at the Chocolate Shop – not quite sure that the teapots were as popular!  We then went to Hawes in the heart of the spectacular Wensleydale scenery and after a really nice lunch – huge portions!! had a demonstration of how the favourite cheese of Wallace and Gromit is made.  There was a brilliant cheese shop, full of samples and a lot uf us came home with our cheese rations for the next few months.

Saturday 13th November – Wed.17th November Turkey and Tinsel in Torquay

Thursday 25th November – Manchester Christmas Markets

New Project for Family History Group

Although we are not meeting until the beginning of October it does not mean we are idle.    At our last meeting members agreed to work on a project to study the residents of Lydiate in the 19th Century.  The initial process has been set out by Peter Marritt and Graham Settle has agreed to collate and analyse the information we collect.   We are not sure where we will arrive with our work but the journey so far, according to those taking part, has been fun.  We will keep you informed about our progress.
