Tip to Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Cheshire, a National Trust property. The Mill belonged to Samuel Gregg and has a collection of early textile machines, a working waterwheel, an apprentice house, workers village etc. Full details in newsletter.
Indoor Bowls – Autumn 2010 season
There will be two sessions, 12.00 – 13.30 and 13.30 – 15.00. Contracts are £10 for the season and can be obtained from Carol at the Tuesday coffee mornings.

Report on joint trip by Art and Architecture groups
The Joint Art Appreciation and Architecture for Fun trip was to say the least, varied.
It started at the Synagogue in Princes Rd 11.30 am with 50 members all eagerly and patiently waiting for the huge doors to open.
When we finally entered the holy place no one was disappointed – what an amazing and beautiful place to worship.
Of course, our main interest was the Art/Architecture but the talk from Dr Grant about the history and customs of the faith made for an all encompassing visit. Some of us bought post cards in the little shop as we left.
We then walked across the road to Peter Kavanagh’s very famous old pub for 1pm where the landlady, Rita welcomed us and allowed us to partake of our own butties she even provided tea.
When she offered to tell us of the history of the public house( from where the Liverpool ghost walks commence) we gratefully accepted unaware that she was a brilliant raconteur and had everyone in fits of laughter, She quelled the hecklers with a stern word and continued uninterrupted.
Many of us agreed we would like to return for more info or even a quiz night.
2.pm we were off cross the road again to the Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas, where we were welcomed by the orthodox priest Fr. James Kasinos, who talked about the domed purpose built church and the history of the faith. We were allowed to look around this beautiful, light and spacious chapel and then offered tea, cake and biscuits in the foyer, such hospitality.
A perfect end to our day of art, architecture and local legend.

Our summer break is now coming to an end. I hope you all had a good chance to use your cameras and look forward to seeing the results. We start on the 6th September and the competition is Humour!! You needed it this summer.
57 members set off from the Square on a lovely sunny morning for Llandudno. We arrived at about llam and had the whole day to do our own thing and there was plenty of choice. We went on the tram up the Gt.Orme to the most spectacular views. Some went on the cable car, we walked the pier, the esplanade, flashed the plastic in the shops, we had food and drink!! did the land train and lots more. Llandudno is still quite Victorian but has everything for the modern visitor. A good day was had by all and we returned refreshed.
