Frank Hornby

Next year will mark 150 years since the birth of Frank Hornby, (1863-1936) who was of course the famous manufacturer of  Hornby Railways, Dinky Toys and Meccano and as many of you know lived in Maghull.

Last week Les French of the Hornby Trust  gave a fascinating talk  on the history of the Hornby empire and brought a number of very early and  rare working models for us to admire. From humble origins Frank Hornby rose to become one of the most famous industrialists of his age.  Les is keen to garner any personal reminiscences and memorabilia  of the Hornby family which older members of the community might be able to provide. If you can help  or know someone who can, please speak to Nigel Winchester who can put you in touch with Les.

Hornby Mosaic

Deyes High School are planning a mosaic for permanent  exhibition at Maghull Railway Station to commemorate Maghull’s link with its famous former resident and would love members of the local community to participate in the project which will be completed in a short series of mosaic workshops to be held at the school beginning in March on Thursday mornings between 9 – 11am.
If you would like to take part, and perhaps learn a new skill in the process, please speak to Nigel Winchester (Tel.0151-526-4357)

There is a lot more about Frank Hornby at this website.
